The Greenhouse,

is about growing matters, focusing on my greenhouse and potager. I grow mainly vegetables, herbs and spices but flowers have their given place too. From seed to table, this is the nursery for my living food, we cook a lot of delicious food and I say a potager is the cook’s best friend. The greenhouse makes it possible to grow essential, colourful, warmth loving fruit and vegetables even in this climate such as tomatoes and chillies. My main blog is Tyras Trädgård/Tyra's Garden. HOT, HOT STUFF AND FREEZING COLD...

HOT HOT

Hot stuff from the greenhouse - Habanero the King of Chilies

My Habanero is from Burkina Faso. If you are interested do read an older post about a potager in Burkina Faso

and then COLD...brr

The greenhouse in November it is really cold in there I haven't got the heating on this year...my husband didn't like last winters electricity bill. :-) Soon ( 30th Nov.) it is Advent and then I will decorate my greenhouse with the typical winter and Advent decorations..

This is how my potager looks right now, it is certainly having a rest.

The Blue Hour in the Greenhouse

The Blue Hour in the Greenhouse
...
My daughter woke me up this morning almost jumping of joy "Mamma det snöar!" which means "mother it is snowing!". She was a little disappointed that I didn't get out of bed straight away. When I slowly stood up and walk to the window I saw this wonderful landscape with 4 inches of snow and it was still snowing, how lovely.
Saturday morning and no plans...that I do like.
Here are some pictures from my favorite hour.
It is something magical about this blue hour. A sense of calmness, silence. The end of the day and the beginning of an evening. It is so wonderful to just sit back and enjoy. Especially a Saturday like this when you are not working, nor have any plans and the day of the very first snow of the season. Magnificent.

Underbart.

Have a joyful weekend/Tyra

A Bulgarian Beauty - Chervena Chushka

Tyra wrote this post in the blog The greenhouse in Tyra's Garden http://tyras-greenhouse.blogspot.com if you are not reading it at The greenhouse...this content was stolen without permission.

Chervena Chushka Pepper

This is a really beautiful lady from Bulgaria! Slim bright red and sweet tasting! If you haven't grown this Chervena Chushka before I certainly do recommend it. Even the plant is healthy looking.

Bulgarian heirloom pepper, traditionally used for roasting but also a great sweet pepper. I eat it 'au naturelle' like an apple same as a said about my green favorite Poblano Ancho Gigantea. Flesh is brilliant bright -red and very sweet. Tapered fruits that are 2" at the shoulder by 6" long it says in the catalog but my peppers are just 12 cm, ripens from green to brown to bright red. 85 days from transplant with perfect conditions that is.

Chervena Chushka in the greenhouse

If you live in US. look into Brenckle's Farm and Greenhouses there you find a great mix of seeds and plants unfortunatly they cannot ship to Europe. ( good for my wallet)

Read more about Hierloom Tomatoes and Peppers here

Grow more and eat more veggies, it's good for you and your know, home organic grown taste the best!

They say "Eat more local produced food!" well it doesn't get more local than to grow them yourself.

Poblano Ancho Gigantea

Tyra wrote this post in the blog The greenhouse in Tyra's Garden http://tyras-greenhouse.blogspot.com if you are not reading it at The greenhouse...this content was stolen without permission.

Poblano, the mexican in my greenhouse.

This Pepper from Mexico Ancho Gigantea, beautiful dark green almost black usually called Poblano. I bought my heirloom seeds at Plants of Distinction (UK), but you can find heirlooms at Rare seeds, Amishland,Cherry Gal… the list is long.

This chili pepper is not at all hot and you can use it for 'filled peppers' when it is green and for salsas when green or later when it has turned into brilliant red. I prefer it raw and to eat it like an apple, the crunching sound of this pepper is....great.

Have a great day all you wonderful garden bloggers!

Let me indroduce to you Mr President Johnson!

…or perhaps you already know him?

He was actually in Tyra's Garden in May...yeah, I know his LBJ deid in -73 but this one is in fact still alive, barely alive, he is resting in the greenhouse.

I was looking in at Jan’s Always Growing this morning and she wrote about Amaryllises.
In my effort to have more blooming perennials, for the last few years, I have been planting amaryllis bulbs in the garden.

When it suddenly struck me that I haven’t planted any of my Amaryllises that I have so carefully saved, nor I have I bought and planted any new…I just totally forgot. I wonder if I will get any in time for Christmas now?

Here is a favorite among my Amaryllises, President Johnsson.

Mr President Johnson in Tyra's Garden! WOW what an honour Mr. president.

NOVEMBER MORNING IN THE GREENHOUSE

Some mornings are really great and this is one of them. The sun is up and the air is moist. I just want to show you some pictures, November can be all right it is not often but sometimes it happens. Tjohooo!

Just I few tomatoes and peppers left...the end of the season. The humidity is high and the herbs that I now store in the greenhouse such as Tarragon, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme even some Parsey there scents are wonderful the air is full of aroma. Breath in....breathe out. Lovely!

Late harvest - Rose hip and Elderberry

Rose hips and Elderberry harvest - beautiful berries to pick out in the nature. Mother nature just gave them to us free of charge.

This is the last harvest of berries for this season Rose hips and Sambucas nigra and you may very well pick these berries now in November, if you are lucky you can also find Sloe Prunus spinosa. I pick my berries on the path leading down to the lake. They are great berries for cooking. If you are interested I have a few recipes here in Tyra's Garden.
