The Greenhouse,

is about growing matters, focusing on my greenhouse and potager. I grow mainly vegetables, herbs and spices but flowers have their given place too. From seed to table, this is the nursery for my living food, we cook a lot of delicious food and I say a potager is the cook’s best friend. The greenhouse makes it possible to grow essential, colourful, warmth loving fruit and vegetables even in this climate such as tomatoes and chillies. My main blog is Tyras Trädgård/Tyra's Garden. Posturing Pumpkin Post - update

My pumpkin stands majestic on the pedestal but just for a few more days. Its days is counted! After I’m through with it I will have served Pumpkin bread, pumpkin soup and the latest suggestion I got from a blog friend ‘garlic flavoured, in the oven roasted pumpkin served with a steak’, that sounds delicious to me….perhaps a glass of red wine. Any more suggestions?

Posing pumpkin

~ The intense smell of autumn harvest in this delicious treat slightly tweaked from The Northwoods Table.
and one from Jane Marie - PUMPKIN PECAN PANCAKES it sounds like heavan to me.
And you get some really nice music to go with it!

A Small Evaluation

A Small Evaluation of the Tomatoes I had in my garden 2008 and still have actually, Moneymaker is a tough guy.

These are the favourites of all tomatoes the growing season 2008. The seeds were sown indoors on my veranda on the 9th of February and then planted them in the greenhouse in May, they are all container grown in the greenhouse. The outdoor grown where placed in the ground in June after the last frost nights. Seeds from Plants of Distinction

All these I do recommend: Everyday tomato - The Czech’s excellent yellow
Prolific orange yellow tomato with a strong flavour. 3inches round fruit. Extremely productive and will supply you with a steady stream of fruit for weeks on end. Best salad tomato for ages! Cordon. 70-75 days from transplanting.
Beefsteak tomato - Crnkovic
Cocktail tomato - Sweet 100 (red) Ildi (yellow)
Green tomato – Green Zebra

Finally harvest time - started to harvest July and I still harvest MONEYMAKER! Which I think is pretty amazing. The biggest harvest gave PRINCIPE BORGHESE The oldest and best Italian variety for cutting and drying. Retains colour, flavour and reconstitutes easily in olive oil for winter use. Bush. 75 days from transplanting.

Beefsteak Crnkovic

The biggest disappointment were the Glacier tomatoes. I thought that they would be perfect in my part of the world but no, I hardly got any at all, very odd, the name misled me.

Which tomato are your favourite?

Which do you recommend?

I would very much like to here from you :-)

Making Scents

Making your own Scents for the bathroom is both fun and easy. Here I give you a few recipes of my favorite Splashes and Bath Salt.
After a day in the garden I need a good soak, to feel your body awaken as you soak in this Citrus and Calendula rejuvenating and refreshing bath salt. Extracts of Citrus & Calendula to energizing your body and mind, bringing you back to life. The Citrus gives the salt a wonderful fragrance and the Calendula heals your skin.

Pure and true joy is to go out into the garden and find these sweet and lovely berries in the middle of October. I tell you that is very rare, no frost yet and I can still harvest from my potager, thank you mother nature!

Berries on the 'new' pedestal.

Newly showered ivy showing off an the pedestal, I actually dip it down into a water barrel with rainwater, yes it seems to love it. :-)

Have a wonderful autumn day - Ha en riktigt underbar höstdag! Vad hittar du i trädgården så här års?

I was standing high up on my ladder cleaning among my Geraniums above the door in the greenhouse when I suddenly saw my greenhouse from another perspective. A birds eye view... that was interesting, got down to get the camera and up again, click, click and here is the result
Harvest on the table - ZOOM OUT ..... ZOOM a little bit more..... Tyra on the ladder....a little scary, it's high up.

Red hot ...not all of them

Not all of the peppers are Red Hot Chili Peppers, most of my peppers are fairly mild. I still harvest loads of peppers and chilies, the tomatoes on the other hand are almost oven now, un fortunately.
Late aftennoon in the Greenhouse, the sun is mild and soon it's dark and's October
Chilies from Turkey, Mexico, Buskina Faso favorite pepper this year is 'Sheepnose'
it's the round one on the right hand side, it's so sweet and mild.
