The Greenhouse,

is about growing matters, focusing on my greenhouse and potager. I grow mainly vegetables, herbs and spices but flowers have their given place too. From seed to table, this is the nursery for my living food, we cook a lot of delicious food and I say a potager is the cook’s best friend. The greenhouse makes it possible to grow essential, colourful, warmth loving fruit and vegetables even in this climate such as tomatoes and chillies. My main blog is Tyras Trädgård/Tyra's Garden. It all started with thirty six antique windows......

It started with thirty six antique windows up on the attic in our summerhouse. My husband wanted to throw them out. But, no, no, no they are beautiful I said, I will use them. So I started to design my very own greenhouse. It took about 9 months from the first drawings till I actually got my building permit, the local building committee in this rural district doesn´t work very fast.
During this time I had already started to do some woodwork. I built the half-moon shaped window and the front door in our garage during the winter. Throughout the summer holiday and all other spare time a worked with the construction. In 2003 the greenhouse was completed.
The floor is concrete with heating added. Sweden is cold during the winter months and it´s a loooong winter. During this period of time I try to keep the floor above zero.
In autumn 2003 I added my Potager and named it Tyras Garden. The Ornamental kitchen garden is a wild mix of medical plants, herbs, flowers, vegetables and I almost forgot the berries. Bees, butterflies, bumblebees and birds keep me company all the time. I think they enjoy the great variety of plants. I have found that the multiplicity of plants is also good against pests and diseases.

I do congratulate you on building such a beautiful greenhouse. A labour of love, a work or art! it is indeed both. I admire your ingenuity and imagination too, by recycling the old window frames. It is so beautiful, I love it. Marion
